The maintenance of high-footfall commercial properties presents a unique set of challenges, particularly when balancing the need for structural integrity with the daily operations of a thriving business. At UK Industrial Roofing Ltd, we recently completed a comprehensive restoration project for the JD Wetherspoon in Blyth, delivering a robust, weather-tight solution for a roof that had long been suffering from the effects of exposure and age.

Upon our initial site survey, the roof—a combination of profile sheets and flat sections—showed significant signs of weathering and degradation. Years of coastal exposure in Blyth had led to the breakdown of the original substrate. The corrugated profile roofing, a common feature on many industrial and commercial buildings of this era, had become porous and unsightly.
Without intervention, the building was at risk of water ingress, which would not only damage the internal fabric of the pub but also potentially disrupt the customer experience. Our goal was clear: provide a seamless, durable, and cost-effective restoration that would extend the life of the roof by decades without the need for a full, disruptive replacement.

Our team implemented a high-performance liquid-applied coating system. This method is particularly effective for profile roofing because it contours perfectly to the waves and ridges of the material, creating a monolithic, "rubberised" seal that eliminates the seams where leaks typically occur.

Working on a live commercial site requires meticulous planning. We utilised orange safety barriers and fall-arrest systems to ensure the protection of our crew and the public below. By choosing a cold-applied liquid system, we also removed the fire risk associated with "hot works" (such as felt and torch-on applications), which is a significant advantage for insurance and safety compliance in a busy town centre.

The transformation, as seen in the "After" photography, is striking. The once-weathered and greyed sheets have been replaced by a uniform, deep black finish that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional. This new membrane is UV-resistant and flexible, meaning it can withstand the natural thermal expansion and contraction of the building without cracking.
At UK Industrial Roofing Ltd, we pride ourselves on delivering solutions that offer long-term peace of mind. The JD Wetherspoon in Blyth now stands protected against the North East weather, ensuring that the staff and patrons can continue to enjoy the premises in a dry, secure environment for many years to come.
